The ink of Utopia
“Lost in the streets of Albania, I see a small green bottle behind the window of a little shop. How wonderful that green is, it feels like something new, yet also something old at the same time. I tell the shopkeeper that I am an artist and that I want to paint this ink bottle. She was surprised and thought it was a great idea.
While searching for a background, It came to my mind that an empty ink bottle must have written something: a book! The book eventually became ‘La Città dell’Utopia’ – The City of Utopia. This book is about the desire for a perfect world that is never fully attainable.
On the edge of the ink bottle balances a leaf, so light and fragile, in perfect harmony. It symbolizes the utopia itself – something that, in its delicate balance, holds the illusion of perfection, but only temporarily. This leaf will not stay like this forever. It will fade and eventually turn to dust, just like the dreams of a perfect world we try to create, but that will always remain out of reach.
Fortunately, I have been able to capture the moment of fleeting beauty in this painting.”
